Fed-batch fermentation with intermittent gas stripping using immobilized Clostridium acetobutylicum for biobutanol production from corn stover bagasse hydrolysate
Corn stover bagasse hydrolysate was used as the substrate for fed-batch acetone-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation and in situ product removal by intermittent gas stripping. The mutant strain Clostridium acetobutylicum ABE-P 1201 was inoculated for ABE production. As results, a final cumulative butanol concentration of 18.6g/L (total ABE: 28.3g/L) was produced from 97.6g/L of total fermentable sugars (75.3g/L of glucose and 22.3g/L of xylose), with an ABE yield of 83.2g/kg of CSB. The gas stripping condensate obtained in the integrated process contained 77-136g/L of butanol and 115-220g/L of total ABE.
