This work developed a single-step process for converting lignocelluloses to ethanol using mesophilically native isolated strains. The strain Bacillus sp. THLA0409 was identified as a dominant cellulose-degrading bacterium, while the strain Klebsiella oxytoca THLC0409 was determined as a dominant sugars-utilizing bacterium. The co-culture of the two strains (Bacillus sp. THLA0409 and K. oxytoca THLC0409) remarkably enhanced utilization efficiency of hydrolysates from acid-pretreated raw bamboo, Napiergrass, rice straw and ethanol production which were determined as 145, 276, and 219g/kg substrate used, respectively, compared to 73.5, 131, and 86.2g/kg substrate used on natural raw bamboo, Napiergrass, and rice straw, respectively. The co-culture showed a potential bacterial source for ethanol production from lignocelluloses.
