<P>A structured nonlinear dynamic model for a single continuous fermentor of ethanol production using <I>Zymomonas mobiliz</I> is built and validated to investigate the effect of dilution rate. A detailed bifurcation analysis is performed at different feed substrate concentrations. It is found that oscillatory behavior dominates the system for both feed substrate concentrations at 140 and 200 g/L; however, the high periodicity in the form of a period-doubling cascade appeared at the higher value of feed substrate concentrations. The model gives reasonable results compared with experiments.</P>
